Istanbul Park was designed by renowned circuit architect Hermann Tilke and opened in 2005 on the Asian side of Istanbul. The circuit hosted Formula 1 from 2005 to 2011, and later returned to the calendar for the 2020–2021 seasons.
Over the years, the venue has hosted nine Grands Prix, providing fans with many memorable moments: three consecutive victories for Felipe Massa (2006–2008), Lewis Hamilton clinching his seventh world championship title in 2020, and a dramatic rain-soaked race in 2021 won by Valtteri Bottas.
The signature feature of Istanbul Park is the famous Turn 8. It is a 640-meter, multi-apex left-hand corner that drivers navigate at nearly full throttle, enduring G-forces of up to 5G. Often compared to legendary corners like Eau Rouge at Spa or 130R at Suzuka, it is rightfully considered one of the greatest challenges for both drivers and cars in the history of Formula 1.
In 2027, the Turkish Grand Prix will make its return, thanks to a five-year agreement between Formula 1 and the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports.
