In the first preliminary practices, Ricardo and Hamilton were the leaders, in the second they were overtaken by Sainz, and the qualification was won by Verstappen, who retained his championship at the start.
For the first segment of the race, everyone chose Soft. The top three at the end of 18 laps looked like this: Verstappen, Perez and Sainz.
Then everyone switched to Hard. After 40 laps the top three remained unchanged. Verstappen easily maintained the lead, but in the top ten that followed him there was a very tight fight.
Max Verstappen became the winner of the season's race. This victory was the 55th of his career and brought him his fifth Grand Slam. Sergio Perez came second – Red Bull Racing's 29th victory double. Carlos Sainz took third place.
At the end of the race, Max Verstappen noted that it was incredible and went better than he expected, everything worked out perfectly. Second-place finisher Perez was less optimistic. He emphasized that the race was not easy, there were problems with engine braking and handling, but noted that he was confident that the rivals would be stronger. He also added that the team will draw conclusions in preparation for the racein Jeddah.
For the first time in the history of Formula 1 in the first race of the season, not a single car left the race.
